An OPD Assistant is responsible for assisting healthcare professionals in the Outpatient Department (OPD) of a hospital or clinic. They help manage patient flow, schedule appointments, maintain medical records, and ensure smooth operations in the department.
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Patient Assistance:
- Guide patients through the OPD process, including registration and consultation.
- Assist elderly and disabled patients in moving around the department.
✅ Appointment Scheduling & Registration:
- Register patients in the hospital system.
- Schedule and confirm doctor appointments.
- Handle patient queries regarding appointments and consultations.
✅ Medical Records Management:
- Maintain and update patient records accurately.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and secure storage of records.
✅ Coordination & Communication:
- Coordinate between doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff.
- Inform patients about procedures, tests, and required documents.
- Communicate test results and follow-up instructions if required.
✅ Billing & Payment Assistance:
- Assist patients with payment processes.
- Handle OPD billing and provide receipts for payments.
✅ Basic Administrative Tasks:
- Answer phone calls and respond to patient inquiries.
- Manage OPD inventory like forms, medical files, and basic supplies.
- Ensure cleanliness and orderliness in the OPD area.
Skills & Qualifications Required:
📌 Education:
- Minimum: High School Diploma (10+2)
- Preferred: Diploma in Hospital Administration / Healthcare Management
📌 Key Skills:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of hospital procedures and medical terminology.
- Computer proficiency (MS Office, hospital management software).
- Ability to handle patients with empathy and patience.
- Multitasking and organizational skills.
📌 Experience:
- 0-2 years of experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare facility (Freshers can apply).
